	LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST

SB 157, Johnston. High Technology Theft Apprehension and
Prosecution Program: effective date.
Existing law establishes the High Technology Theft Apprehension
and Prosecution Program, which generally provides funds for programs
that enhance the capacity of local law enforcement and prosecutors to
deter, investigate, and prosecute high technology related crimes.
Existing law also provides that the program is effective until
January 1, 2000.
This bill would extend the effective date of the program to
January 1, 2003, and provide that as of that date the program is
repealed, unless a later enacted statute, that is enacted before
January 1, 2003, deletes or extends that date.

SECTION 1. Section 13848.7 of the Penal Code is amended to read:
13848.7. This chapter shall remain in effect only until January
1, 2003, and as of that date is repealed, unless a later enacted
statute, that is enacted before January 1, 2003, deletes or extends
that date.
